What are the best things about attending UAB School of Dentistry?
There are a few major criteria to consider when selecting which dental program to attend. Some of those criteria include the location, the learning environment, the faculty, and the education/training received for the price you pay. As for location, UAB is located in Birmingham, AL in the northern part of the state. Overall, it is a decently sized city in close proximity to other cities (including Nashville and Atlanta) as well as the beaches in Alabama and Florida. There are mountains for hiking, lakes within a reasonable distance, breweries, and lots of cool restaurants to try.

What are the worst things about attending UAB School of Dentistry?
Although all of the preclinical supplies (practice teeth, dental materials, etc.) are provided, in certain situations they are limited or run out, which leads to long wait times and students can get a little crazy because they feel their time is being wasted. Also, the ratio of faculty to students in both preclinical labs and clinic are not perfect leading to long lines to get checks and feedback during daily activities and appointments. Furthermore, clinic grading and feedback isn’t always standardized which can be frustrating.

What do students need to know/what do you wish you knew before attending UAB School of Dentistry?
If you don’t want to be a part of a family, UAB isn’t the place for you because that’s exactly what you get. Dental school is hard enough as it is; the cutthroat environment isn’t what you will experience here.
