What are the best things about attending Meharry Medical College School of Dentistry?
Meharry Medical College was established in 1876 and is one of only two Historically Black College and University (HBCU) dental schools. It is located in the fast-growing city of Nashville, Tennessee. The best thing by far about attending Meharry Medical College is definitely the rich history. The institution was founded by a single man with a desire to give back to the African American community. True to its heritage, Meharry places special emphasis on providing opportunities for people of color, individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds, and others regardless of race or ethnicity. I believe that this mission is very evident to students. Faculty and staff are very willing to do whatever it takes to make sure that you succeed. They will point you towards the right opportunities for shadowing, tutoring, or mentorship.

What are the worst things about attending Meharry Medical College School of Dentistry?
Of course, Meharry isn’t a perfect institution and definitely has its flaws. Keep in mind, none of these have been deal-breakers but these are some things that I have noticed in my time here. If I could change anything about Meharry Medical College, it would be an increase in the school's technological efficiency. We have had the wiring throughout the school upgraded to fiber optics but there are still delays and crashes that tend to happen at the most inopportune times (like in the middle of an appointment with a patient). Definitely a work in progress.

What do students need to know/What do you wish you knew before attending Meharry Medical College School of Dentistry?
Students should know is that this school is very underrated. If you look at questionable ranking systems online, you will find Meharry towards the bottom of the list. However, I feel as if my education has been top-notch every step of the way. I have never experienced a more passionate faculty in all my years of education. I feel like being underrated gives Meharry a drive to produce the best doctors possible instead of falling victim to the systems and politics associated with being considered “highly ranked” which is sometimes achieved at the expense of educating students.
