What are the best things about attending the University of Mississippi Medical Center School of Dentistry?
We have small class sizes. The maximum class size is 40, so we get to form close relationships with all of our classmates and our professors. We also don’t have many residency programs (only OMS & pedo), so students get to perform procedures that most schools refer to the residents. This helps us gain a ton of experience and confidence. For example, I have friends from other schools that have never done all-on-four implants and half of my class has already done 3-4 of those cases in the first year of clinic.

What are the worst things about attending the University of Mississippi Medical Center School of Dentistry?
They only accept in state residents so don’t waste your money applying if you are not a Mississippi resident. Mississippi will take your money and you’ll never hear from them again, but thanks for the donation!

What do students need to know/what do you wish you knew before attending the University of Mississippi Medical Center School of Dentistry?
Note that UMMC requires you to have taken 6 credits of math and 3 credits of statistics or biostatistics. I wish I knew that I would never get a summer again so enjoy it while you have it. We typically get less than 2 weeks off each summer, so yeah. No summer at all. The majority (like 80%) of the class graduates and goes into private practice, so we are well-equipped to put you into practice. That means that very few people go on to specialties from UMMC. Just be aware of that coming in; if you want to do a specialty, you will have to work on your own for it and there won't be a big support system trying to help you get there just because the school doesn't push people to specialize.
