What are the best things about attending University of Illinois at Chicago College of Dentistry?
One of the most prominent benefits I have noticed at the UIC College of Dentistry is the immense cultural diversity of students and faculty members. This diversity has made my experience far more interesting both inside and outside of lecture halls and laboratories.

What are the worst things about attending University of Illinois at Chicago College of Dentistry?
The most common complaint from D1 students on campus is the location of our anatomy lab. Unfortunately the lab is located in the medical school, about a half of a mile away from the dentistry campus. On certain days in the spring, summer, and fall when the weather is nice, the walk is a welcome break from school. However, the same walk in the Chicago winter can feel like crossing a frozen tundra.

What should students know/what do you wish you knew before attending University of Illinois at Chicago College of Dentistry?
The main thing I wish I would have known coming to UIC is how challenging D1 year can be. The first year of our program is very intense and can test your sanity on different weeks. From lab work and tooth wax-ups to seemingly endless tests during exam weeks, the stress can build up quickly. The most challenging and “new” aspect of D1 year for many people in my class was gross anatomy lab. Even with great instructors, lab is intense and moves quickly. It is very easy to get behind in this class, so review time should be taken as often as possible. If possible, I would recommend to all incoming students to take some form of anatomy lab while still in undergrad, as it will make D1 year far more manageable.
