What are the best things about attending Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine?
BU has a great reputation for producing skilled dentists. We also have a strong alumni network. The school is located in the South End (Boston), so there’s lots of amazing restaurants and fun things to do nearby! Students like participating in the nightlife, going hiking, or checking out the stores and historical locations. Our school is high tech, with Cerec machines, Omnicams, surgical guides, intraoral cameras, and digital implant planning. We also have a great research program. All lectures and Simulation Clinic sessions are recorded and posted online on EchoCenter.

What are the worst things about attending Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine?
It can be tough to find patients who show up for appointments to get your clinical requirements fulfilled, but I feel most students end up doing just fine. It can feel like there are never enough faculty since they don’t all show up every week, and sometimes the ones that do disappear, are busy on their phones, or talking to each other. We are also one of the few schools to have an AS (Advanced Standing) program for international dentists, so we have to fight with them for space in the simulation clinic to practice. You spend a lot of time just waiting for faculty to approve your preclinical work. The atmosphere is competitive because we aren’t pass / fail and we get ranked at the end of the year, and the gunners really care about ranking for specializing.

What do students need to know/what do you wish you knew before attending Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine?
BU is a really good school and they are known nationally for producing qualified dentists. You spend over two years working on patients (2 years in clinic and an externship during 3rd year). Because of BU’s reputation, it’s a great program if you want to be a general dentist, since that’s what most students end up doing. It is a very challenging program, but upperclassmen are really nice about sharing their notes and study guides.
